2024 Postdoctoral Conference Travel Award

The Postdoctoral Conference Travel Award provides conference travel funds for postdocs in these departments in the Division of Physical & Biological Sciences at UC Santa Cruz:

  • Chemistry & Biochemistry
  • Ecology & Evolutionary Biology
  • Microbiology & Environmental Toxicology
  • Molecular, Cell, & Developmental Biology

This year, we will be able to make one or more awards totaling $1,400. The application period is October 9 through November 12, 2024.

Award criteria:

  • Past and continuing evidence of research accomplishments
  • Ability for the award to substantially improve your career prospects
  • Financial need

Please prepare the following information for your application:

  1. A funding request statement (500 words maximum) that describes
    1. the conference you wish to attend
    2. any opportunity you would have to present at the conference and a brief statement of the work you would present (e.g., abstract) OR opportunities you will be allowed to pursue (e.g., job applications, grant proposals, manuscript writing, etc.)
    3. any other sources of funding that have, will, or may be used to support your travel to this conference.
  2. A budget for the use of the funds
  3. You will be asked to upload a CV that includes the following sections: academic history; awards, grants, and honors; public talks; publications; teaching experiences; and public service activities. The PDF should be named as follows: [your last name]-postdoc-travel-application-2024

Incomplete applications will not be eligible for consideration. You must be doing work in one of the departments listed above to be eligible. 

Selection process: Applications will be evaluated first by your department, and each department will submit one nomination to a central awards committee in the Science Division for final selection. 

Awardees will be asked to supply information and a thank-you note for the donors.
